After several visits to the
community, and having spent time with the Superior responsible for
receiving aspirants to the Society, a young man may request, in
writting, permission to begin his Postulancy.
The period of Postulancy, the first step in the Society of the
Immaculata, is to familiarize oneself with the daily schedule and
rutine of the community. It will have been the first time that the
young man has "lived" - for a continual period of time - in a religious
house. It will serve as good exposure to what would be expected of him
if he perseveres in religious life.
The length of the Postulancy is
six
months, although it may be
shortened at the discretion of the Superior. It may also be extended
for good reasons, yet not beyond another six month period, after which
the postulant must either be received into the novitiate or dismissed.
The Superior has the right to dismiss a postulant whom he does not see
as having a vocation to the Society of the Immaculata at any time
during the Postulancy.
Upon admission, the postulant will prepare an itemized statement of all
he has brought with him, which will be signed in the presence of two
witnesses.
The postulant shall also sign
before two witnesses a release of any claim to remuneration for
services he will have rendered during his association with the Society.
