The Society of the Immaculata is a
traditional
Roman Catholic Religious
Congregation of men living what
St.
Louis Marie de Montfort called True
Devotion to Mary – striving each day to “be true disciples of Jesus
Christ, walking in the footsteps of His poverty, humility, contempt of
the world…,” by giving to Jesus Christ all that we can give Him through
the most perfect of means - Mary's hands. Everything is consecrated to
Him, even the right of disposing of interior goods and of the
satisfaction gained by good works every day.
This
Total Consecration to Jesus through
Mary is the driving force
behind the spiritual life of the Society of the Immaculata - so whether
praying, working, studying, preaching, or teaching, all is done "by,
with, in and for" Mary for the salvation of souls, thus promoting the
Kingdom of God and the reign of Christ the King.
We are Missionaries:
Like St. Louis Marie, we strive to
follow in the footsteps of
the
Apostles, proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Wisdom,
wheresoever the Holy Ghost calls. Our life demands that we be not
attached to any one place, that we be ready to move as individuals and
as a community. Our apostolates include
: parish work, retreats,
lectures,
catechism
classes for children and
adults, work with home-schoolers, all with the goal of teaching and
spreading the spirituality of St. Louis Marie de Montfort:
Ad Jesum per
Mariam.
We are a Community:
The Monfortian model – a close
brotherhood, a family. We are not
hermits; we do not live alone. Community prayer, community living,
community apostolates are intrinsic to the life of the missionary in
the Society, with charity, the queen and superior of the virtues,
governing his life with her golden scepter. True charity is the
life-blood, guardian and bond that holds this family together.
We are Mary's:
The Immaculata’s “fiat” at the
Annunciation inspires us and influences
us to respond totally to God Alone, so that Christ Jesus may be formed
within us and overflow onto all whom we encounter. The maternal
presence of Our Lady, therefore, is an intrinsic part of the life of a
missionary in the Society. We live in Mary so that we may ever
intensely live in Jesus Christ.
The life of a missionary in the Society of the Immaculata is a
challenging and demanding one. This is the time of our Foundation. Each
soul that accepts Our Lord’s gracious invitation is a Cofounder of this
most humble work of God. Our days are spent living the spirituality of
an extraordinary saint. It is the living of this spirituality that
blossoms forth into our apostolate.
Those who join our
founder
at this extraordinary time of the community's beginning are required to
make many sacrifices. It
demands a generous soul: not self-seeking or looking for a place to sit
back on his oars. The work to be done is the building upon a foundation
that must serve as a strong barque, ferrying souls toward the harbour
of salvation. No, a Cofounder must not be weak of heart nor afraid of
work. For this reason, only the most generous of souls, who are
determined to spend themselves for God's Glory at whatever the cost,
should consider themselves called.
The Society of the Immaculata follows a traditional
programme of
formation for all who have a
vocation
to
the community - be they called to religious life
only or to the priesthood as well. This structure, accompanied by the
sincere generosity of the individual, will help provide the Church with
faithful missionaries.
